Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, the new governor of Kano State, has taken action against illegally constructed structures on government property.

According to the report, late Friday night, a task force assembled by the governor began demolishing buildings on the Kano Race Course (Filin Sukuwa).

Governor Abba Gida-Gida’s firm stance was outlined in his inaugural speech earlier this week.

He issued a clear directive to the state’s security agencies, ordering them to reclaim all public properties sold during the previous administration of former Governor Umaru Ganduje as soon as possible.

Governor Abba Gida-Gida addressed the issue, saying, “Today, I announce that all of these public places and assets, which were unlawfully looted and sold by the Ganduje administration, must be seized by law enforcement agencies.” Until the government makes a final decision, the police, DSS, Civil Defence, and Hisbah will lead this effort.”

The properties in question include schools, religious and cultural sites, hospitals and clinics, graveyards, green spaces, and the Kano city wall. Furthermore, landed properties and assets belonging to Kano State were illegally transferred to individuals and their associates both within and outside the state.

To ensure that justice is served, Governor Abba Gida-Gida announced the formation of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry in the coming days. Its mission will be to investigate and prosecute all perpetrators, as well as those who assisted and abetted in these illegal activities.

In a related development, the governor issued an order on Friday stopping all land development projects at the Hajj Camp. During his visit to the Kano State Pilgrims Camp, he expressed his dismay at the facility’s state.

“It is deeply disheartening to see the deplorable state of a facility that was supposed to provide a home away from home for pilgrims from Kano State and beyond.” “The previous administration shamefully sold numerous plots of land to their associates,” said Governor Abba Gida-Gida.
