Ifeanyi Ezenwankwo, a middle-aged man from Nanka in Anambra State’s Orumba North Local Government Area, is currently in police detention for allegedly inflicting physical injuries on his wife, Ekwutosi, and burying a newborn infant in a shallow grave.

Ezenwankwo was reported to have buried the newborn baby in order to conceal his unlawful activities with a 16-year-old female whom he impregnated and bore the child for him.

Ekwutosi, a local of Agbiligba Nanka community, said she was injured after raising the alarm when she returned home and found her husband burying the newborn baby.

Chidinmma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Aide to Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, revealed this to journalists on Thursday in a press statement.

Ikeanyionwu stated that the perpetrator was apprehended promptly by security personnel, and the wife was rescued once the ministry was made aware of the situation.

The statement went on to say, “One Ekwutosi Ezenwankwo, a woman from Agbiligba Nanka has been rescued from his alleged ritualist husband, Ifeanyi Ezenwankwo, for refusing to aid and abet his criminal activities.”According to the woman, the husband, who is also a Nanka local, has a tendency of impregnating one 16-year-old girl and then aborting the pregnancies, but he ran out of luck when the 16-year-old fell pregnant again and the pregnancy could not be terminated. The culprit’s wife stated that the trouble began when she returned home from where she had gone and saw her husband and the 16-year-old girl burying the newborn baby, and when she raised the alarm, the husband mercilessly fell on her and wounded her along with her children.

“The woman stated that she had previously observed what was going on between her husband and the young girl and had quickly warned that nothing should happen to the unborn child, a situation that she claimed caused the husband to hide the girl in his chambers.”

“She also revealed that her husband has repeatedly threatened to kill her, citing instances where community members have rescued her from her husband whenever he embarks on the mission of silencing her.”

“When she was asked what started the issue, Ekwutosi said that their problem started when the husband married another woman and ever since has not been contributing to the upkeep and welfare of the children.”

According to the statement, the perpetrator has been apprehended and is being held in police custody while investigations continue.
