The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, is impersonated on a bogus LinkedIn account, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
This is stated in a statement made available to Newsdiaryonline on Friday in Abuja and signed by the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka.
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, is the subject of a bogus LinkedIn account, according to Muoka, who said, “The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) desires to call public notice to this.
In order to dupe unwary members of the public and social media users who could believe that such an account belongs to the EVC of NCC, it is clear that the account was made by some dishonest and criminal elements.
“Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the EVC/CEO of NCC, does not have a LinkedIn account. Therefore, any such account that you may find on social media or another platform and that claims to be associated with the NCC EVC is fraudulent.
In order to stop this fraud in its tracks, “we are cooperating with the proper security agencies to determine the source of this fraudulent act.”
Muoka asked the general public and stakeholders to use social media platforms with caution and vigilance.
“We strongly advise the general public and our esteemed stakeholders to exercise caution and vigilance while using social media platforms or in the online, as many of these dishonest people and organisations proliferate there and wait to take advantage of unwary consumers.
With its official website (www.ncc.gov.ng) and major social media channels, the Commission is present online. On our website and on our verified social media handles, you may find a verifiable record of every detail on our activities, programmes, and reports.
We also urge everyone to subscribe to our official social media pages for reliable news and updates.
When accessing or using material from social media, he recommended the general people to proceed carefully.
