No foreign leaders have been invited to the 63rd anniversary of the country’s independence, which is set for October 1, according to the Federal Government on Monday.
According to the authorities, the choice to have a low-key celebration was made.
This was said at a press conference in Abuja by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Low-key celebration has nothing to do with whether or not we’re performing poorly, he declared. The current economic climate is challenging, not only for the country as a whole but also for our own family. The leaders of the world are not invited. We have not invited any foreign leaders, as 53 world leaders were invited to the President’s inauguration. The public will soon get access to the CBN investigator’s report.
“As you know, the President has authorized a low-key celebration for this 63rd anniversary, taking into account the current state of the economy. “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity” is the anniversary’s theme.
Speaking on behalf of the country, he declared, “Despite our differences, we have all decided to live in a united, peaceful, prosperous nation.” There is no nation that can advance without these. The government is watching out to protect the interests of our country.
He said the celebration is especially significant now because there has been a continuous democratic record since 1999 and a smooth, successful, and orderly presidential transition from one administration to the next.
In spite of political unrest and a coup wave in certain ECOWAS sub-regional areas, Nigerians have firmly accepted democracy and its fundamental principles as the ideal form of government. Through elective structures and procedures, democracy gives its citizens the chance to actively engage in national affairs.
In a representative democracy, the people and the government have a symbiotic relationship in which the government upholds the rights of the people and offers security, protection, and advancement of their interests.
“The administration is fully aware of the effects of the global economic crisis as well as the financial difficulties that Nigerians have faced since the fuel subsidy was removed. The government is working tirelessly to offer the required palliatives to lessen these difficulties, as well as buses to lessen the burden on transportation, among other things. In order to solve issues that are important for the welfare of all Nigerian employees and Nigerians in general, the government is interacting with labor at the same time.
This is the reason the government, led by His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is relying on the Renewed Hope Agenda, which will enhance economic growth and job creation, ensure the end of poverty, enhance security, improve access to capital, enhance the environment in which people and businesses operate, uphold the rule of law, and combat corruption.
An anniversary symposium and public lecture were scheduled on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the State House Conference Center at 10 a.m.; a lecture was scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2023 at the National Mosque Conference Center at 10 a.m.; and there would be a Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque at 1 p.m.
Additionally, Akume announced a military parade on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Presidential Villa, at 9 a.m., an interdenominational church service at the National Christian Center on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., and a presidential broadcast on Sunday, October 12023, at 7 a.m.
