Sardauna Walin Wasa, a resident of Suleja in Niger State, was arrested by the Nigerian police on Friday, July 26.

SaharaReporters gathered that the arrest followed Wasa’s Facebook posts advocating for protests, which read, “Protesting is possible in Nigeria. We support the motion. Let’s go ahead.”

His post, also written in Hausa as “Zanzo zanga wajibine a najeriya,” quickly attracted attention.

Authorities acted swiftly, detaining Wasa and transferring him to Minna, the capital of Niger State, SaharaReporters learnt.

The police have not yet provided further details on the charges Wasa faces or the legal implications of his post, sources told SaharaReporters.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters earlier reports that a popular TikToker, Junaidu Abdullahi aka Abusalma, was released from prison custody days after his arrest.

It was learnt that he was warned by the Department of State Services (DSS) not to participate in the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, scheduled for August.

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that Abusalma was remanded in prison custody after posting a viral video calling for mass protests over hardship in the country.

Abusalma was reportedly picked up by security agents last Wednesday and subsequently taken to Abuja, before he was arraigned in court and remanded in Kano prison.

However, Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow movement announced on Tuesday that Abusalma had been released.

According to Sowore in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Nigeria’s secret police, DSS released Abusalma after their lawyer visited him in prison.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), revealed that the DSS approached the judge in charge of his case in Kano to obtain an order to remove him from prison.

He said Abusalma was released shortly after.

However, Sowore said before releasing him, the DSS warned him against participating in the upcoming protest.
