NSCDC detains eight oil thieves in Lagos

Eight people were detained, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps agents, on Tuesday in Ajah Beach in Lagos State while being suspected of transporting stolen petroleum products.

According to reports, the suspects were captured during a routine patrol of the agency’s state command’s anti-vandal unit.

Abolurin Oluwaseun, the command’s public relations officer, revealed that the product was thought to be adulterated diesel.

“The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, have apprehended eight suspected oil thieves caught transporting petroleum products suspected of being adulterated diesel in Ajah, Lagos,” the statement’s partial text read.

“On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, the suspected oil thieves were captured in the area of Ajah Beach during a routine patrol of the Command’s Anti-vandal unit. On behalf of one Mr. Pius (who is currently at large), the suspects were discovered transporting a boat with 13 industrial tanks loaded with approximately 1,000 litres of diesel each as well as 50 drums of 200 litres each filled with diesel.

The eight alleged oil thieves are: Joshua Zira Lukas, 40, Gbenga Ifanaje, 49, Omodoru Fayowole, 57, Timilehin Ajonike, 40, Ogunfuyi Smart Kolawole, 29, Ademibo Omomowo, 35, Ayo Agidi Ogun, 47, and Ijitola Ilemobayo, 40.

Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, the State Commandant, spoke up and gave the order to the command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department to launch a new investigation into the case. He added that the suspects would be charged following the investigation.
