Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, claims that his organisation has adopted President Bola Tinubu’s policy of “zero tolerance” for oil theft and has advised oil thieves to leave the nation or face retaliation.

He emphasised that oil thieves would not have it easy with his men and claimed that President Bola Tinubu takes a tough stance against oil theft.

On Monday in Abuja, Audi spoke at the Course 10 Passing Out Parade.

He declared that the NSCDC, which he led, would not tolerate any personnel in the ongoing fight against oil theft making compromises.

Audi told his men to pursue oil thieves aggressively and make sure they are caught.

“Remember, we are the leading agency in the protection of critical assets,” he said. The nation’s infrastructure, including the fuel pipelines, must be safeguarded. We are aware of the President’s position on oil thefts. There shouldn’t be any giving in.

“You must commit yourself and exert all of your efforts to curtail and, if at all possible, eliminate oil theft. We will catch the oil thieves and pipeline vandals if you capture them. We warned those who wanted to keep launching attacks on our pipelines to leave the country or we would go after them and arrest them all.

Audi also cautioned employees against accidently discharging, admonishing anyone found at fault for harsh punishment.

We now have a Standard of Operations that directs our service-related activities, according to Audi. You’ll face a court martial. In this manner, the service’s discipline is upheld. Accidental discharge is not acceptable in this service.

“If you commit a mistake or become overzealous with the trigger and kill a civilian, the SOP will take you to task. Please exercise caution when using your rifle. You are taught how to use a rifle and, unless instructed otherwise, not to kill. This means that on the battlefield, you can only kill if you are aware that someone is trying to kill you.

While this is going on, some officers who joined the NSCDC in 2012 with a Higher National Diploma claim that since they joined the service 11 years ago, they have not advanced or have stagnated.

In an open letter to the President and the National Assembly, the concerned officers expressed their regret that many officers who joined the service after them had been promoted.

We’re using this platform to ask President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Head of Service, and all well-meaning Nigerians to look into our problem with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (2012 HND holders intake).

“Whoever it may concern, please respond to the following question: Why are the 2012 intakes, who hold HNDs in the NSCDC, being treated poorly in comparison to their peers in sister agencies under the same Ministry of Interior?

“We were both NCE holders and Inspector of Corps rank (Level 7) recruits into the NSCDC in 2012.

In 2014, the statutory year for confirmation under public service regulations, we took the confirmation and promotion examination, but despite passing the Compro, we were neither promoted nor advanced.

When a replacement exercise was conducted in 2016, all officers hired as Assistant Supretendents of Corps II received automatic promotion to the next rank, but all HND holders hired in 2012 remained inspectors (Level 7). Before the NSCDC recently implemented the elimination of the HND/BSC dichotomy in 2018, which was also implemented in sister paramilitary organisations under the Ministry of Interior starting in 2016, HND holders hired since 2012 were still inspectors.

While up to 95% of us, HND holders, are still on one star as of the year 2023, the majority of our B.sc. holder counterparts who were recruited alongside us in 2012 are now hanging the rank of Superintendent (Eagle).
