Oil bunkering: more than 30 persons lost their lives in Rivers community

Following a fire explosion from an illegal oil refining operation, over thirty people are said to have died in the Ibaa hamlet in Rivers State’s Emohua Local Government Area.

According to a community source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the fire originated from a nearby cooking pot used for refining and was connected to a pit where multiple people were scooping crude oil that was taken from a pipeline.

Certain victims perished before being sent to the hospital for treatment, according to information obtained by Probitas News, while some victims were burned beyond recognition.

According to reports, the event happened late on Sunday night.

A formal statement regarding the terrible incident has not yet been released by the Rivers State Police Command.
