On Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State expressed outrage over the alleged misappropriation of monies and food supplies sent to the state by the federal government to ease the effects of hardship on the public after the Bola Tinubu administration removed the gasoline subsidy.

According to the report, Tinubu declared that his administration would devise palliative methods to lessen the country’s impoverished people’s suffering from hunger and financial difficulty.

It should also be remembered that in recent weeks, some of these intervention cash and supplies were purportedly released through state and local governments, with some state governments, like Kwara and Ogun, publicly confirming the news.

Olawale Sadare, the publicity secretary for the APC, criticized the PDP administration in the state for willfully withholding information about the receipt, distribution, and management of funds and food items delivered to the Oyo State government as the share of the state’s good people in a statement released on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

Out of the five billion naira that the federal government has set aside as monies to be distributed through the states to the poorest of the poor, he added, “Virtually all the states of the federation have declared the receipt of, at least, two billion naira.

“Last week, the neighboring states of Osun and Kwara recognized the transfer of the sum of two billion naira to their coffers, but Makinde kept this information secret in line with his customary behavior.

“For about six weeks now, the people of the state have been unable to find the 3,000 bags of rice that Makinde received from Abuja, and there are signs that they have been diverted in the same manner as the COVID-19 relief supplies provided by the Federal Government, corporate organizations, and private donors.

We also ask Makinde to give an explanation for his directive to local government council chairmen to transfer (to the state government account) the two tranches of N56 million that the federal government paid to their council accounts between August 16 and August 18 of this year as the shares of the third tier of government.

“The 33 local government councils in the state received a total of N3.696 billion, but they were unable to use even a small portion of the cash for the intended purpose.

“It is clear that the contrived Palliative body that Governor Makinde established about four weeks ago was only meant to deceive the public because the body would not ultimately have any influence.

“However, we won’t be surprised if the state government in the coming days gives the committee a few bags of rice and noodles and instructs them to give the same to a few PDP members just to give the impression that the target population of poor people in society have benefited,” Sadare submitted.
