The Nigeria Police Force’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command has apprehended a former Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) official who was offering sophisticated guns for sale to criminals operating in the Abuja-Kaduna forests.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, March 5, Mustafa Mohammed, the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, reported the terminated officer’s detention; however, his identity has not been made public.
According to Mohammed, an intelligence-driven police effort led to the suspect’s capture.
The transfer of these weapons to criminal organizations that would have used them for destructive purposes was successfully prevented by this operation, he explained.
The security officer said that the command was able to “intercept the firearms from the dismissed immigration officer, who was attempting to deliver them to bandits causing unrest in the Abuja-Kaduna area” since it was based on actionable intelligence. During the delivery attempt, the weapons were successfully intercepted thanks to the prompt reception of this intelligence.
Among the guns confiscated was a highly advanced, fully automatic pistol with an integrated silencer, the Scorpion CZ EVO3.
“The 2022 Scorpion series model is the most recent model. It has burst, automated, and single modes of operation. The magazine may carry 20 to 30 rounds, depending on the configuration, and it is a very advanced weapon. Mohammed disclosed, “We also found 52 rounds of ammunition that could have been a serious danger if they had gotten into the hands of criminals.”
Between January and February 28, 2025, 300 people were taken into custody, according to FCT Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu, who also provided more information about recent force operations.
