Police arrest NDLEA and NSCDC officials in connection with an extortion case in Imo
Three National Drug Law Enforcement Agency personnel and two members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been detained by the Imo State Police Command for allegedly intimidating and extorting residents of the state.
News reporters in Owerri were informed of this on Tuesday by the command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye.
One person detained for the same offense was a 37-year-old police inspector.
He claimed that the suspects were well known for utilizing point-of-sale devices to extort innocent bystanders, especially the kids in Owerri.
These are security agents working undercover in Imo’s Operation Search and Flush, harassing and extorting thousands of naira from the public, especially young people.
He continued, “They cause their victims enormous suffering by using POS and seizing and checking their phones.
In order to complete the investigation and prosecute the culprits, Okoye reassured the public that steps would be taken quickly.
