An 18-year-old pregnant housewife in Bauchi State was arrested for beating her five-year-old stepdaughter to death for defecating on her.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, told journalists at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday while presenting the suspect.
After injuring the youngster, Khadija Adamu, a resident of Kandahar, a neighborhood of Bauchi, was detained.
On 28 September 2023 at 9.25 pm, Abdulaziz Adamu, male (38), of Kandahar area Bauchi, reported at A’ Divisional Police Headquarters that Khadija Adamu, female (18), of the same address beat up her stepdaughter, Hafsat Garba female (5), causing serious injuries.
The information prompted a team of detectives led by DPO to rush to the spot and transport the woman to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where the doctor pronounced her dead.
His preliminary investigation found that the defendant beat the victim after she discharged stool that soiled her garments, causing numerous body injuries.
The suspect admitted to the alleged offense against her without much argument during interrogation, he said, adding that the investigation is still ongoing and the suspect would be charged in court.
