Following the devastation caused by floods in the village, residents of Mayo Selbe hamlet in Gashaka Local Government Area, Taraba State, are now tallying their losses.

The village in Taraba Central Senatorial District lost millions of naira’s worth of items to the floodwaters that followed a heavy downpour on Friday.

Speaking with DAILY POST, the victims pleaded with the appropriate authorities and groups to immediately intervene on their behalf.

I’ve never seen a deluge like this before, said a victim who wished to remain anonymous. We can move past this. We should receive assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, or NEMA.

While some of the flood victims who lost their houses are currently seeking refuge in public areas, our reporter also saw that some victims are receiving housing from friends and family in host towns.

Kum Thomas Maiyanga Shaibu, the community’s king, fervently pleaded with the federal and state administrations to help the victims restore their devastated homes.

Wakili Sabanah Ibrahim, another local monarch, urged the authorities to assist the village, pointing out that the locals had lost almost everything.

“The victims have been subjected to untold hardship as a lot of them don’t have shelter and a place to lay their heads,” he remarked, his face clearly depressed.

In addition to the homes that were flooded, it was seen that the flood had also taken household animals and agricultural products with it.
