Sen. Aminu Tambuwal’s nomination as Senate Minority Leader is opposed, according to the People’s Democratic Party faction Concerned PDP League.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Daboikiabo Warmate, the chairman of CPDPL, claimed that the organisation was opposed to Tambuwal because of his actions as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Warmate suggested that the position be zoned to Plateau State in the North-Central region rather than Tambuwal.
However, the past has caught up with him, he said, adding that his ambition was “dead in its imagination.”
Warmate claimed that Tambuwal had joined the APC while serving as Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives, which position was given to him by the PDP.
The news that Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, wants to be the minority leader of the 10th Senate has come as a great disappointment and a shock.
“Someone who accepted the Speakership of the House of Representatives that we gave him in 2014 and switched parties. Later, the same person returned to the gathering.
“Now that he wants to lead the minority in the 10th Senate, we won’t support you,” they said.
Warmate said, “Look, for many years he was the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, but he could not speak against the oppression and suffering of Nigerians.
He claims that, based on his prior behaviour, Tambuwal cannot be trusted a second time and lacks the courage to serve as the minority leader of the 10th Senate.
He demanded that the National Working Committee of the party be dissolved after the party’s midterm convention in order to make room for new suggestions.
The group additionally urged Amb. Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman, not to sign any letters designating Tambuwal as the minority leader of the 10th Senate.
“The former PDP Governors Forum Chairman led the opposition party in abject failure.
“No, enough is enough; we cannot use and discard PDP members.
“We want them to know that it is the Peoples Democratic Party, not the Elite Democratic Party or the Stakeholders Democratic Party.
“No, we won’t permit members, leaders, or any leader to squander the party as they please! That must change. We must be honest with them.
Warmate praised Nyesom Wike, the outgoing governor of Rivers State, for giving the opposition the voice it needed during the eight years the APC-led federal government was in power.
