Shettima will represent Tinubu Rome, Russia

For two significant international summits in Rome, Italy, and St. Petersburg, Russia, Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu.

Shettima, who departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, will attend the inaugural Stocktaking Moment Summit from July 24 to July 26 with other world leaders under the subject “Transforming Food Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity.”

The Vice President will preside over a high-level session at the summit with the theme “Innovative Financing for Food System Transformation: the Case of Nigeria” and the side event “Scaling up Multi Stakeholders Collaboration and Investment in the Implementation of Food Systems Transformation Pathways in Nigeria,” according to a statement from Olusola Abiola, the director of information for the Vice President’s office at the State House.

The announcement reads, “VP Shettima will represent President Tinubu at the UN food systems summit in Rome and the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg.”

The UN agencies stationed in Rome, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Food Programme, as well as the larger UN system, are all working together to organize the event.

The President’s representative at the Russia-Africa Summit, which is planned to take place from Wednesday, July 26 to Saturday, July 29, will be Shettima, who will travel from Rome to St. Petersburg in Russia.

The Vice President will attend the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit and Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum while in Russia, which will focus on developing strategies to improve ties between Russia and the African continent among other advantages. The Vice President will attend these events among other governmental and commercial figures.

In order to explore connections between Russia and Nigeria, he will also take part in bilateral talks with representatives of important senior Russian government officials and business executives.

Shettima, who is traveling with senior government representatives from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, is anticipated to return to the nation at the end of the week.

Since becoming Vice President, he has only traveled domestically.
