The head of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, Mazi Simon Ekpa, has charged the Nigerian government with targeting Igbos unfairly and with injustice for many years.
According to him, there was no turning back once the Biafra referendum was implemented.
This was revealed on Friday during a two-day extraordinary Biafra referendum convention in Helsinki, Finland, by Ekpa, a lawyer based in Finland and the Prime Minister of BRGIE.
He clarified that self-preservation has turned into the Biafra agitation, which sprang from the marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria.
Speaking at what is now called the “Biafra Helsinki Declaration October 20–21, 2023” convention, Ekpa claimed that the Nigerian government has not yet addressed the underlying causes of the Biafra agitation.
He charged that the Biafran people were still the targets of injustice and unfairness on the part of the Nigerian government.
Ekpa maintained that the concept of “one Nigeria” cannot continue without equity and fairness.
Ekpa thus observed that, in order to assist the nation and people of the Southeast under Nigerian domination, Igbos had established the Biafra De Facto Government (BDFG) and BRGIE.
Biafra should be given the freedom and independence to exist, he continued.
There seems to be a global plot to silence discussion of the ongoing crisis in Nigeria.
“Biafrans have been fighting for freedom once more for more than ten years. Sustaining oneself has become the driving force behind what was originally activism against marginalization.
The movement for Biafra, which resurfaced over ten years ago in opposition to marginalization and exclusion from government with relation to infrastructure development and resource sharing, has subsequently evolved into an advocacy for self-preservation.
Regarding the underlying reasons why there was unrest in the first place, they have not yet conceded anything.
The majority of rational nations react to citizens’ expressions of dissatisfaction with their rulers with communication and involvement. In Nigeria, however, things are not the same.
Despite this, there is talk of “one Nigeria.” Without inclusiveness, equity, and justice, a nation cannot be one.Instead of having a conversation and working persistently to resolve complaints, terror toward Biafra persisted, which had the opposite impact.
“Parts of the country cannot be excluded from the advantages of belonging to the same nation while still claiming one Nigeria.”
