Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has advised his controversial deputy, Philip Shaibu, to abandon his governorship bid in exchange for his public apologies.
Probitas News claimed that Philip Shaibu requested his principal to forgive his “wrongdoings.”
In a journalist interview last week, Shaibu, who has been fighting the governor for Edo State governorship, made the request.
Governor Obaseki told Shaibu that his deputy must relinquish his governorship ambition before they can reconcile, according to various sources who told PM News Nigeria.
Obaseki, who returned from his annual vacation overseas over the weekend, said he would never work with Shaibu until he formally renounced his governorship ambition.
The governor reportedly invited all Edo executives to Lagos for a two-day “Exco retreat with Mr Governor.”
The deputy governor was neither informed or invited to the meeting last Saturday and Sunday.
Lagos hosted this week’s State Executive Council meeting through Monday, the 25th, sources said.
The meeting was open to all Exco members excluding the Deputy Governor.
Obaseki reportedly threatened to remove Shaibu’s security vote and restrict him from all government events, including Exco meetings, if he participated in the PDP primaries.
The governor was accused of ordering his aides to schedule an Excos lecture a day before the meeting to allow third parties to attend and avoid public condemnation.
Chairman of Alaghodaro’s Board of Trustees Asue Ighodalo, the governor’s nominee for governor next year, was also invited.
A seminar attendee told PMNews that the governor will introduce his replacement to all Exco members in Lagos this week.
Official confirmation of the Lagos Excos meeting was impossible because no governor assistant would remark.
A fortnight earlier, the governor met with the 24 State House of Assembly members in Rwanda.
