President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with major oil marketers on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa’s Council Chambers in Abuja.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, a former Chairman of the Oil Marketers Association, led them to the meeting.

The President’s meeting with the oil marketers came as the price of petrol at the pump rose due to the removal of a subsidy on the product.

President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidy payments during his inaugural speech on May 29 at Eagle Square in Abuja.

Governor Abiodun told State House, correspondents, after the meeting that the marketers had come to express solidarity with the President for his bold decision to end subsidy payments.

Tinubu’s action, he said, demonstrated his determination and courage to end the haemorrhage that had plagued the country for decades.

Governor Abiodun stated that the President has directed the National Economic Council (NEC) led by Vice President Kashim Shettima to begin working on interventions to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on Nigerians.

The marketers also announced their intention to donate 50 to 100 mass transit buses to aid the initiative’s success, hoping that other well-meaning corporate bodies will do the same.
