The outgoing President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), has stated that he is confident that the incoming President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be able to maintain the same level of activity as his administration.
This was stated by President Buhari on Monday during his speech at the Presidential Fleet Review, 2023, which was held at the Naval Dockyard Limited on Victoria Island in Lagos.
According to Buhari, the incoming administration will keep the relationship that he had with the Nigerian Navy by providing the necessary support as and when it is due. This is something that will continue even after he leaves office.
The President stated that “I have no doubt that the incoming administration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu will sustain the current tempo of my administration in giving the Navy the necessary support to effectively carry out its assigned tasks.” “I have no doubt that the incoming administration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu will give the Navy the necessary support to effectively carry out its assigned tasks.”
The Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, along with a combination of assets from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Air Force, put on some impressive combat displays, and President Buhari praised them.
He said, “I expect this to translate into the actual capability to dominate Nigeria’s maritime environment and secure the vast resources therein for the socio-economic development of our great country.” He was referring to Nigeria’s maritime environment and its vast resources.
On the efforts of the administration to recapitalize the Navy Fleet over the past seven years, the President listed the acquisition of over 300 inshore patrol vessels and assault craft in addition to 20 capital ships for the Navy. These capital ships included offshore patrol vessels, landing ship transports, hydrographic survey vessels, seaward defence boats, and helicopters. In addition, the President listed the acquisition of 20 capital ships for the Navy.
However, Buhari expressed the hope that under Tinubu’s leadership, the Nigerian Navy would continue to acquire new assets, expand shipbuilding for export purposes, promote indigenous production, intensify the fight against piracy, and address issues pertaining to the theft of crude oil in the maritime domain of Nigeria.
In closing, the President extended his best wishes for the Navy as he prepares to leave office on May 29, 2023.
