Troops kill 23 terrorists, arrest 137 criminals

According to the Defence Headquarters, troops engaged in many operations across the nation killed no less than 23 terrorists and detained 137 offenders.

Five kidnappers, 22 oil thieves, and one informant are among the culprits who have been detained.

The activities were carried out between August 14 and August 25, according to a statement released on Friday by Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media activities.

He added that the efforts resulted in the rescue of 41 kidnapped persons.

 

“The counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations being carried out by troops continue to achieve results,” it said in part. Even though every day, members of the armed services risk their lives in the service of the nation, they have come a long way.

The military will keep up the momentum of its operations by applying more pressure to organizations attempting to compromise national security and the safety of its citizens.

As of August 25, 2023, the military has neutralized 23 terrorists, detained 109 criminals, five kidnappers, one informant, suspected stolen 22 barrels of oil, and freed 41 hostages who had been kidnapped. Additionally, 25 adult males, 63 adult females, and 143 youngsters surrendered to forces, making up the 231 terrorists and their families.

Buba stated that the soldiers found 300 different types of ammo as well as 41 firearms.

“There are 14 AK47 rifles, 1 AK49 rifle, 2 AK47 rifles loaded with 7.62mm special ammo, 1 PKT gun, 1 LMG, 2 pump action guns, 2 locally made pistols, 3 locally made rifles, 2 dane guns, 1 pistol, and 2 locally made long barrel guns.

Additionally, soldiers have recovered an AK47 weapon equipped with 30 7.62mm special rounds, an AK47 magazine with the same number of shots, 239 7.62mm special rounds, five 7.62 NATO rounds, 44 PKT rounds, five 9mm rounds, and six cartridges. The statement also said that troops found 10 machetes, a pair of camouflage, 13 motorcycles, 22 mobile phones, a bicycle, and more.

He stated that forces in the South-South had found about 682,400 liters of stolen crude oil.

“The operations in the South-South geopolitical zone led to the arrest of the following: 682,400 liters of stolen crude oil, 70,950 liters of unlawfully refined AGO, and 23,250 liters of DPK. All of this combined to deny the oil thieves an estimated sum of N414,396.250, he claimed.

He added that one of the girls taken hostage from the Chibok School was among the 231 terrorists and family members that turned themselves in to the military.

“One of the missing Chibok School girls was among the terrorists and family members that were captured by Operation Hadin Kai’s offensive operations. The incident took place in Borno State’s Dikwa and Gwoza LGAs.

“Preliminary research showed that Mary Nkeki, a missing Chibok School student mentioned in Ser No. 55 Chibok Girls poster, is one of the adult females. The girl from the Chibok School who had been reported missing had been taken to 7 DMSH for further action.
