In an accident that occurred late on Wednesday night, two passengers on a bus carrying some final-year Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso students were returning from a picnic along the Osogbo/Ifon/Oyo Boundary route. They were burnt to death.
The Osun Ambulance Scheme workers who reacted to the distress call from the accident scene, which was close to Ojutu Bridge in Ilobu, managed to save five more occupants.
In an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, Adeyanju, a resident of Okinni, stated that the bus driver who was transporting the victims had struck a commercial motorbike rider in the town and was attempting to flee from the furious people who were pursuing him.
The bus somersaulted and caught fire a short distance from Ojutu Bridge when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Three persons lost their lives to burn injuries, while some were saved before the fire could spread. Some of the casualties were rescued by O’Ambulance Scheme operators, according to Adeyanju.
In a conversation with our correspondent, Elizabeth Arowosafe, Head of Operations, stated that the organisation received a distress call on Wednesday at 9:50 p.m. informing them that a bus carrying some LAUTECH final-year students returning from a picnic was involved in an accident.
“We responded around 9:53pm,” she stated. According to what I’ve been told, the vehicle hit someone in Okinni and was speeding to escape being chased by onlookers when the tragedy occurred.
The driver, a woman, and a male student perished from burns. Five persons were saved by us. We hurried them to Osogbo’s UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. It was a successful hospital. Actually, we had to give one of our stretchers to the injured individuals because there was not enough room for them.We were unable to identify the deceased victims. They had been riding in a bus. I discovered that the people inside the bus are senior Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho students who had an excursion to the Erin-Ijesa waterfall.
“We were informed by one of the hurt children that they had just returned from an expedition. She provided us with the names of the victims, but she lacked the strength to identify the others.
Agnes Ogungbemi, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ public relations officer, also offered her thoughts on the collision, stating that losing control due to a speed limit infraction was the cause of the accident.
