On Thursday, nurses at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, returned to their shifts, substituting their uniforms for muftis.

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) reports that the hospital administration refused to pay the nurses’ uniform stipend, which led the nurses to choose to wear muftis.

We have discovered that the nurses are requesting money for the uniform allowance they have accrued over the past four years.

According to a hospital employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the hospital’s administration has stopped providing the allowances in 2019.

On Saturday, our correspondent discovered that the hospital’s administration had been handed a 21-day ultimatum by the nurses to pay the unpaid allowances.

A nurse, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, stated that the hospital’s administration was given an ultimatum that ended on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

When the ultimatum expired on Thursday, the nurses made the decision to wear mufti.

According to a source, nurses employed by federal hospitals are eligible for a standard payment of N20,000 per year.

According to the source, the national organization supported the action taken by the NANNM, UCH, Ibadan chapter members.

However, Funmi Adetuyibi, the hospital’s public relations officer, stated that the problem had been fixed when contacted.

Speaking over the phone on Saturday, Adetuyibi stated, “It has been sorted out amicably.” Nothing is wrong.
