Wasiu Ibrahim, a vulcaniser who is 41 years old, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for molesting his wife’s niece, who is 15 years old. The incident took place in 2014.
The judge who handed down the verdict, Rahman Oshodi, came to the conclusion that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to support the accusation of defilement against Ibrahim.
The prosecution claims that the convicted individual committed the crime on January 26, 2017, at approximately 2am, at 61, Abeokuta Street, Ogba, in the city of Lagos.
Oshodi came to the conclusion that the convicted individual had attempted to discredit an out-of-court statement in which he admitted to having sexually assaulted the survivor.
The judge commented that even though the defendant’s daughter had called him “daddy” since she was ten years old and had lived with him since then, this did not discourage the defendant. After engaging in sexual activity with her, you made the threat that you would beat her if she informed anyone about it.
She did not tell anyone until many days later, after she was discovered crying at the back of the classroom at Estate Primary School, Ogba. “She did not inform anyone”
The judge stated that a man such as the defendant should feel humiliated and be punished for his actions since the law in Lagos State has zero tolerance for sexual crime.
“The crime of defilement, for which you have been found guilty, involves a sentence that cannot be less than life in prison.
Oshodi pronounced the following sentence: “I hereby sentence you to life in prison, and I order that your name be registered in the Sexual Offences Register as maintained by Lagos State.”
