The Labour Party’s (LP) Lamidi Apapa faction has urged its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to withdraw his case at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal due to a lack of merit.
According to the faction, the advice was required following the incident at the tribunal on Thursday.
It was recalled that the court had postponed hearings on the petition filed by Obi and the LP challenging President Bola Tinubu’s election.
Abayomi Arabambi, the factional national publicity secretary, raised these concerns during a press conference in Abuja.
He told journalists that since the tribunal’s inception, Obi has failed to provide any concrete evidence to back up his claims.
“We have followed with keen interest the shameful developments and approach by the so-called legal team assembled by Peter Obi challenging the outcome of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, and we have come to the conclusion, like many Nigerians, that Obi is not only taking Nigerians for a ride but would continue to waste the hard earned resources donated by Nigerians for this purpose to even enrich himself.”

“All of you who have been following this case can recall that the day we had our altercation in court with (Julius) Abure’s group, INEC announced that Peter Obi would be unable to pay for CTC form EC08 and other documents.” As a result, they were only able to present 30% of the materials required for the hearing at the Election Petition Tribunal.
“How would any rational person go to an election tribunal with only 30% of the documents, none of which would be accepted or agreed to be tendered by other political parties?”
“They said two of their counsels were sick three days ago, and yesterday (Thursday), they couldn’t even file a single process with the array of SANs with Obi.” This is what we’ve been saying: they’re just trying to dupe the public, deceive the Obidients, and give them false hope that they’ll get something at the tribunal.”
