The family of the officer slain by suspected Boko Haram militants in Geidam on Saturday has received condolences from Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, as well as the Nigerian Customs Service.
The Governor expressed his sorrow and regret for the attack on the Customs facility and the officer’s death in a statement sent on Sunday through his spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed.
The fact that this awful occurrence strikes us during a period of comparatively calm weather around the state is disheartening.
“There is little question that our brave security personnel have kept a close eye on things to ensure the safety of people and property within the state.
Nevertheless, this regrettable incident serves as a reminder for us all to exercise caution and not let the serenity we are experiencing or any unexpected events overwhelm us.
The Nigeria Customs Service, the Controller General, and the family of the deceased officer have my deepest sympathies and condolences, on behalf of the government and people of Yobe State, commented Buni.
The relative peace that exists throughout the State will be enhanced, he pledged, with the administration’s continued cooperation with security personnel.
In addition to asking for strength for his family to endure the irreversible loss, Buni asked for the late officer to rest in eternal peace.
The Governor issued an appeal to the State’s citizens to constantly supply government and security authorities with timely and valuable information on dubious individuals and movements within their neighborhoods.
